An equipment maintenance log for service businesses

If you run an independent service business, your equipment is your livelihood — and most breakdowns are predictable. The problem isn't the machines. It's that maintenance lives in someone's head or a notebook nobody opens.

The problem with tracking maintenance from memory

Skipped service dates, no cost history, and no early warning. A generator, cooler, lift, or vehicle fails on the worst possible day, and you're paying emergency rates and losing a job you already booked. Multiply that across a fleet and "we'll get to it" becomes your biggest hidden cost.

What a good log actually needs

• A registry of every machine with make, model, and serial/asset number.
• A service interval per machine and an automatic next-service date.
• Printable daily / weekly / monthly checklists the crew will actually use.
• Cost history, so you can see when a machine is becoming a money pit.
• Simple status: Running / Needs Service / Down.
